Project Overview

The mobile app at Serket Tech was redesigned to improve usability and overall user experience. The goal was to create a more intuitive, visually consistent, and user-centered app while optimizing it for both Android and iOS platforms.

Research & Insights

  • User Interviews: Conducted interviews to understand user pain points.

  • Competitive Analysis: Analyzed competitors' apps for design trends.

  • Analytics Review: Studied app analytics to pinpoint areas for improvement.

  • Personas & Journey Mapping: Mapped key user journeys to focus on problem areas.

Design Process

  • Wireframing & Prototyping: Focused on simplifying navigation and key interactions.

  • UI Design: Developed a cohesive design system based on Google Material Design principles.

  • Accessibility: Incorporated features like larger fonts and high contrast for better accessibility.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Worked closely with developers to ensure smooth implementation.

Project Overview:

At Serket Tech, I led the redesign of our mobile app with the goal of enhancing user experience (UX) while aligning with the company’s strategic vision of creating intuitive, AI-driven solutions. The mobile app had been functional but lacked consistency in design and user interactions, leading to user frustration and low engagement. Our objective was to streamline the interface, improve accessibility, and ensure the app was optimized for both Android and iOS platforms.

Problem

  • Usability Issues: The app had a cluttered interface and inconsistent design, making it difficult for users to navigate.

  • Inconsistent Design: The app’s visual elements were not cohesive, leading to confusion and frustration for users.

  • Low Engagement: Despite its potential, user engagement was low due to difficult navigation and lack of intuitiveness.

Research & Insights:

  • User Interviews: Engaged with farmers and staff who used the app to understand their pain points and needs.

  • Competitive Analysis: Analyzed competitor apps within the agtech space to identify design trends and user expectations.

  • Analytics Review: Leveraged app analytics to identify key areas where users were experiencing drop-offs or confusion.

  • Personas & Journey Mapping: Created personas based on the target user segments (farmers, farm staff, and industry professionals) and mapped their journeys to focus on high-priority improvements.

Design Process:

  • Wireframing & Prototyping:
I began by wireframing the app’s core flows, ensuring a more streamlined navigation and simpler access to the key features that farmers rely on.

  • UI Design & Visual Language:
I created a cohesive UI design using Google Material Design principles, incorporating a refined color scheme, modern typography, and consistent button styles. The design aimed to reflect the professional and high-tech nature of Serket Tech’s offerings.

  • Accessibility:
I prioritized accessibility by implementing high-contrast elements, larger font sizes, and screen reader compatibility, ensuring the app was usable by a wide range of users, including those with visual impairments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
I worked closely with Serket Tech’s product and development teams to ensure the design was aligned with strategic goals and that implementation went smoothly.

Results:

  • Enhanced User Experience:
The redesigned app offered a much smoother navigation experience, with a visually cohesive interface that improved overall usability. Farmers could easily access real-time animal data, making more informed decisions on the go.

  • Increased Engagement:
Post-launch analytics showed a significant 25% rise in daily active users within the first month, demonstrating that the design changes resonated with the user base.

  • Positive User Feedback:
User feedback highlighted improved navigation, easier access to real-time animal behavior data, and overall satisfaction with the design updates.

  • Efficient Handoff to Development:
Close collaboration with developers ensured that the redesign was implemented smoothly, with minimal technical issues during the development process.

Key Learnings:

  • Collaboration is Crucial:
Continuous feedback from cross-functional teams ensured that the design aligned with Serket Tech’s goals and user needs.

  • User-Centered Design Pays Off:
The iterative design process, focused on user feedback and testing, ensured that the final product was both user-friendly and aligned with the needs of farmers.

  • Iterative Design:
The project reinforced the importance of rapid prototyping and testing, allowing for quick adjustments and refinements based on real-world usage and feedback.

Conclusion:

The mobile app redesign for Serket Tech successfully improved the user experience, enabling farmers to interact more easily with the app’s powerful AI-driven features. By addressing key usability issues and aligning the design with Serket Tech’s mission to improve animal welfare and farm operations, the app now provides an intuitive, actionable platform for farmers, increasing engagement and satisfaction. This project reinforced the importance of collaboration, user feedback, and design iteration in creating effective digital solutions in the agtech space.
